Coronary artery calcium scoring (a heart CT scan that measures calcium in plaque) looks at your coronary arteries (the blood vessels supplying your heart). Plaque is fatty build-up in artery walls. The result helps your doctor understand your risk of heart disease and discuss the next steps. It does not tell you the percentage of blockage or rule out a heart attack.
Ask about calcium scoring on WhatsAppThis scan usually needs no dye injection. Your doctor can help decide whether it is useful for you.
Who might benefit?
Your doctor may suggest this scan if you have no symptoms but need a clearer picture of your heart risk. They will first consider your cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes, smoking and family history. Not everyone needs a calcium score.
When is a different test needed?
This is not an emergency test for chest pain. If you already have coronary artery disease (disease of the blood vessels supplying the heart), a stent or previous bypass surgery, ask your doctor which assessment you need. Repeating a calcium score may not help guide your care.

Infinitely Pink offer: 18 September to 30 November 2026.
Ask us to confirm the total payable, including any registration, consultation or other applicable charges, before booking. What a calcium score can and cannot tell you
The score measures calcium in plaque inside the blood vessels supplying your heart. A higher score generally means more of this calcium is present. A score of zero means no calcium was found, but softer plaque and other heart problems may still be present. Your score is not a percentage of blockage. Your doctor will explain it together with your medical history and other results.
How do I prepare?
Tell us if you may be pregnant, have had heart procedures or take regular medicines. Ask us whether you need to avoid food or caffeine before your visit. Keep taking prescribed medicines unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
What happens during the scan?
You lie on a table that moves through the CT scanner. Small sticky patches may be placed on your chest to track your heartbeat. The team will ask you to hold your breath briefly while pictures are taken. Ask how much time to allow for the whole visit, including registration.
Radiation and your report
The scan uses X-rays. The team adjusts the scan settings to your needs. Ask about the radiation used and when your report will be ready. A doctor should explain what your result means and what to do next.
Calcium score, CTCA or treadmill test?
Calcium scoring looks for calcium in plaque to help your doctor assess future heart risk. CT coronary angiography (CTCA) uses an injected dye to show the heart’s blood vessels and look for narrowing. A treadmill test assesses the heart’s response to exercise. These tests answer different questions. Your doctor can explain which one is useful for you.
Ask about calcium scoring on WhatsAppCommon questions
Is this the same as a CT scan jantung?
That phrase can refer to different heart CT examinations. Ask whether your doctor means a calcium score or CT coronary angiography (CTCA). They are different scans.
Can a zero score guarantee that my heart is healthy?
No. Softer plaque that has not developed calcium and other heart problems may still be present. Keep following your doctor’s advice, even with a zero score.
Do I need a contrast injection?
A standard calcium score does not need a dye injection. CT coronary angiography (CTCA) is a different scan and usually needs one.
Do I need to fast?
Ask our team when booking. Instructions can differ between heart scans, so follow the guide for your appointment.
Can I walk in without a referral letter?
Walk-ins are welcome. Contact us first so the team can assess suitability and confirm scan availability. Bring any existing referral or relevant results if you have them.
How long will it take, and when will I get results?
Ask the booking team to confirm the full appointment duration and reporting time for your visit.
Is RM320 the final amount?
RM320 is the listed campaign scan price during the stated dates. Confirm any registration, consultation and other applicable charges before booking.
Should everyone over 40 have this scan?
No. Being over 40 does not automatically mean you need this scan. Your doctor considers your overall heart risk and whether the result would help with decisions about your care.
